Contemporary Literary Criticism (courtesy of Texshare) | includes Full Text

CLC presents significant published criticism on the works of novelists, poets, playwrights, short story writers, and other creative writers now living or who died after December 31, 1959. Each entry contains the following: a biographical essay that discusses the author's life, works, and critical importance; critical essays or excerpts taken from books, magazines, literary reviews, newspapers, and scholarly journals; and, where available, interviews with featured authors. A complete bibliographical citation prefaces each critical essay and most essays are introduced by a brief annotation that establishes a context and purpose for the criticism. Entries also provide suggestions for further reading.

Provides access to information related to German women authors who have been writing from 1945- . Database contains bibliographical references to monographs, anthologies and contributions in anthologies, and radio dramas broadcast since 1945. IBZ International Bibliography of Periodical Literature

IBZ online contains over 2.1 million journal articles from over 6,000 journals covering the years 1983-2001. Approx. 120,000 entries are added to the database annually. (1983- updated monthly)

The International Medieval Bibliography was founded in 1967 with the support of the Medieval Academy of America, with the aim of providing a comprehensive, current bibliography of articles in journals and miscellany volumes (conference proceedings, essay collections or Festschriften) worldwide. The discipline areas to which the IMB is relevant include Classics, English Language and Literature, History and Archaeology, Theology and Philosophy, Medieval European Languages and Literatures, Arabic and Islamic Studies, History of Education, Art History, Music, Theatre and Performance Arts, Rhetoric and Communication Studies. Iter Gateway to the Renaissance

Includes a journals database, which includes approximately 135,000 records from scholarly journals pertaining to the Renaissance (1300-1700) and Middle Ages (400-1500), as well as a monographs database (under construction), which acts as a bibliography of monographs, material published in monographs, and collected essays pertaining to the Renaissance (1300-1700) and, eventually, the Middle Ages (400-1500).

JSTOR | includes Full Text | Source List

JSTOR provides online, fulltext access to over 300 core scholarly journals from date of inception to a "moving wall" of 2-5 years from present. The archived collection includes journals in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The content is searchable by author, title, fulltext with limits by discipline, year, and article type. (Note: pop-up blocking must be disabled.)

Magazine Stacks

This freely-accessible database allows you to search or browse the table of contents information of numerous German and English-language historical journals, Festschriften and monographic series. Many journals are represented in complete runs and many extend back to the nineteenth century.

Modern Language Association Bibliography (via FirstSearch) | includes Full Text

This bibliography covers literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore from over 4,000 journals and series published worldwide between 1926 and the present. The MLA Bibliography is updated ten times per year. (1926-)

Periodicals Index Online

Periodicals Index Online began as Periodicals Contents Index at Harvard University. Articles from over 900 humanities and social sciences periodicals with nineteenth century content have been indexed. (1790-1919)

Web of Knowledge previously known as Web of Science | includes Full Text

The Web of Science is an integrated database of three citation indexes: Science Citation Index (SCI), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI). SCI and SSCI have searchable author abstracts and each database may be searched by a variety of other accesses including who the author cites. WOS permits searching one or more of the three databases. SCI on WOS coverage is from 1900 to date. SSCI indexes material from 1956 to date. AHCI indexes materials from 1975 to date. Includes ISIHighlyCited: a directory of over 250 eminent researchers in life sciences, medicine, physical sciences and social sciences. (minimum 1975- (see description))

Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB)

ZDB is the largest database of periodicals and serials in the world. It contains over 1,2 million titles in all languages, published from 1500 to the present day. Electronic editions of periodicals are also included. In addition, ZDB lists over 6 million holdings of these titles in 4,300 German libraries.

This is a virtual newspaper reading room hosted by the Austrian National Library. It makes available to readers hundreds of historical newspaper and magazine titles published in Austria from late 18th through early 20th century.

Digital Dissertations and Theses from ProQuest/UMI

A comprehensive source for doctoral dissertations from the United States and Canada. Includes citations for dissertations ranging from 1861 to those accepted last semester. A limited number of master's theses is also included. Titles represent authors from North America and Europe, with over a million titles in full text.

Digitale Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker

Exilpresse digital: Deutsche Exilzeitschriften 1933-1945

The German Library Frankfurt am Main digitized this collection of German exile magazines and newspapers from 1933-1945. The Website is in German; periodical articles are predominantly in German but also in English and Spanish.

Gerritsen Collection -- Women's History Online

This collection, when complete in December 2002, will include more that 4,700 books, pamphlets and periodicals reflecting the revolution of a feminist consciousness and the movement for women's rights. Materials will span four centuries (1543-1945) and 15 languages.

Goethes Werke

This database consists primarily of the Weimar Edition of Goethe's works, originally published between 1887-1919 by Hermann Böhlau (and Nachfolger) under the patronage of Grosshezogin Sophie von Sachsen and hence often referred to as the Sophien-Ausgabe. It is supplemented by material not found in the Weimar Edition, namely Goethes Gespräche, edited by Woldemar Freiherr von Biedermann (Leipzig, 1889-1896) and all the letters discovered since the completion of the Weimar Edition: Goethes Werke, Nachträge zur Weimarer Ausgabe, edited by Paul Raabe (dtv, München, 1990).

The Bibliographie der deutschen Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft (Engl.: Bibliography of German Language and Literature Research) was started in 1957 by Hanns W. Eppelsheimer of the University of Frankfurt and continued by Clemens Köttelwesch. It is the largest and most authoritative index of published research on all areas of German philology. BDSL went online in 2004 as a joint project of the Frankfurt University Library and the German publisher V. Klostermann.
