Chicano Database o n p r o x y (via FirstSearch) | includes Full Text
CDB identifies, in one place, all types of material about Chicanos and provides uniform subject access to this constantly growing body of literature. In 1992 CDB expanded its scope to include the broader Latino experience of Puerto Ricans, Cuban Americans, and Central American immigrants. The vendor of this database has merged with OCLC; the database migrated onto the WorldCat interface, 9/19/07.

CLC presents significant published criticism on the works of novelists, poets, playwrights, short story writers, and other creative writers now living or who died after December 31, 1959. Each entry contains the following: a biographical essay that discusses the author's life, works, and critical importance; critical essays or excerpts taken from books, magazines, literary reviews, newspapers, and scholarly journals; and, where available, interviews with featured authors. A complete bibliographical citation prefaces each critical essay and most essays are introduced by a brief annotation that establishes a context and purpose for the criticism. Entries also provide suggestions for further reading.

The Handbook is a bibliography on Latin America consisting of works selected and annotated by scholars. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, more than 130 academics from around the world choose over 5,000 works for inclusion in the Handbook. (1935-)


Hispanic American Periodicals o n p r o x y
The Hispanic American Periodicals Index (HAPI) covers over 400 scholarly journals in the social sciences and humanities, or treating Latin American and U.S. Hispanic topics. A guide to searching the Hispanic American Periodicals Index is available online. (1970- updated annually)


Historical Abstracts o n p r o x y | includes Full Text
Complete reference guide to the history of the world from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada, which are covered in America: History and Life). Published since 1954, Historical Abstracts has long been recognized as the leading bibliography for historical study in the world. Currently over 2,000 journals published throughout the world are covered.

JSTOR provides online, fulltext access to over 300 core scholarly journals from date of inception to a "moving wall" of 2-5 years from present. The archived collection includes journals in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The content is searchable by author, title, fulltext with limits by discipline, year, and article type. (Note: pop-up blocking must be disabled.)


Latin Americanist Research Resources Project u n r e s t r i c t e d
Indexes the contents of over 350 periodicals published in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. Individual articles can be located through a variety of browsing and searching combinations, including article author, title, country, journal title, and date.


Modern Language Association Bibliography o n p r o x y (via FirstSearch) | includes Full Text
This bibliography covers literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore from over 4,000 journals and series published worldwide between 1926 and the present. The MLA Bibliography is updated ten times per year. (1926-)

Brazilian Government Document Digitization Project o n  p r o x y
A project of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) aimed at digitizing executive branch serial documents issued by Brazil's national government during the period between 1821 and 1993, and by its provincial governments from the earliest available for each province to the end of the Empire to 1889. The series include: Provincial Presidential Reports (1830-1889), Presidential Messages (1889-1993), Ministerial Reports (1821-1960), and the Almanak Administrativo, Mercantile Industrial do Rio de Janeiro (1844-1889).


Digital National Security Archive o n  p r o x y
The database contains more than 35,000 of the most important, declassified U.S. federal documents that led to policy decisions. Videotape 1 films (documentaries) circulate to all Rice patrons for a week.

Videotape 2 films (feature films) circulate to Faculty for 3 days; Staff and Students can view the films inside the Library (we have recently upgraded our viewing equipment).
